Baby Boomers who need to supplement their Social Security, pension and/or investment income should consider working part time. Some may want to work part time just to stay active and involved. In addition to extra income, many employers offer benefit packages to seniors even though they are only working part time. In fact it may be worthwhile for a Baby Boomer to work part time just to receive health insurance.

Baby Boomers are fortunate in that there is a building demand for experienced, reliable senior workers. According to Senior Citizens Employment and Training, "Sixty-four million boomers are poised to retire over the decade...Depending on what they do, there may not be enough younger workers with the right skills to replace them. Some labor analysts are predicting a shortage of as much as 10 million workers by the end of the decade."

A good place for Baby Boomers who have a limited income to begin a search for part-time employment is at the AARP Foundation. Its Senior Employment Service Employment Program (SCSEP) helps those 55 and older who need jobs find jobs. CareerBuilder.com has launched a job site for baby Boomers, called PrimeCB.com. It allows you to search for both part-time and full-time positions where employers are specifically interested in Baby Boomers. This is a great resource that you should check out. Sign up for alerts to automatically be notified when a position that you are interested in opens up.

Baby Boomers should also visit AARP's National Employer Team, made up of independent companies that have completed AARP screening who want to recruit and keep mature workers. This highly recommended site allows you to search by employer or by industry.
