Baby Boomers - MLM Opportunities

Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) is a popular means for supplementing income among Baby Boomers entering retirement and those wishing to start a second income in anticipation of retirement. 

Network marketing is simply a distribution method.  If a MLM company is totally dependent upon the recruitment of downlines to maintain profitability, it is pyramid scheme.  If a MLM company does not have a high-demand product or service, it is doomed to failure.  If a MLM company claims a "miracle cure," "amazing breakthrough" or "secret formulas," watch out...especially if they require an upfront investment.

But a lot of MLM companies are successful and do offer products and services with true value. Our advice to Baby Boomers is to closely examine MLM opportunities before jumping in, especially if they are asking for an upfront investment.  And also be advised that the "free" Internet sites most MLMs offer these days are practically useless for gaining online visibility.  If you elect to join a MLM business, we recommend investing in your own Website,  optimizing it for Internet search engines and use online marketing to build your own branding.

Before jumping into an MLM, however, we urge you to "Google" a candidate and read "the good, the bad and the ugly."  Check the company out with the Better Business Bureau and other agencies. A great site to check out MLM candidates is MLMWatchDog.com.

Beware of MLMs hawking products into saturated markets.  The longer the company has been around, the more danger there is that it will be difficult for you to gain market share.  Validate that the product or service has value unto itself  - test it yourself to be sure. Confirm that pricing is not inflated to compensate for multiple distribution levels.  Understand your time and training commitment to make the investment work. 

MLM network marketing may be just the answer you are looking for to create a comfortable retirement.  Like starting any home based business, however, you must perform upfront research to become successful and expect to work hard to grow your business.  For those that pick a good MLM product or service, however, the rewards can be considerable.  Good Luck!
